Ishvar Ansh jiva avinashi- You are my very own part! August 31, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 1:50 pm

There is nothing more amazing than “I am God’s and God is Mine”
God has revealed to us in the Gita “Mameva Ansh” – You are My very
own. He has also said “Ishvar Ansh” – You are a part of Me, in the
Ramayana. The truth is that our relationship is only with God. There
is no relationship with anyone else, at all. Only with God. That
is all there is to it. Therefore accept with a firm determination
“I am God’s and God is mine.” He remains with us forever.

If we accept this with a firm conviction, progress will be very
quick. In whatever life form (yoni) we travel, God is there with us.
Who else is there with us all the time? Who else is like God? There
is no other relationship, like the relationship with God. Only God
is my very own and I am only God’s. All others will come and go,
absolutely everything in nature will come and go. Is there anyone
who will stay with us? Not a thing, not a person, not a group, not
an organization, not a position, nothing, absolutely nothing!
Everything will disperse away. This is what ultimately hits home. No
one else is mine; Only God is my very own. Be happy! Be joyful !

This realization is so amazing, so great, so extraordinary, so
filled with nectar. It is our own! Only God is. And nothing else
Is. This is the essence. Accept with firm conviction. It is the
essence of all. I am God’s and God is mine. Just like a little child
says, mother is mine. He says this even to his older brother, “Ma
is mine.” I can order her around. Similarly God is mine and I am
God’s. And no one else is mine. You will be entirely uplifted.
Liberated ! Only Bhagavaan (God) remains with us forever. Whatever
life form we take, He will be ever present. Nothing else will be
there with us. Not a single body form that we have had. Meerabai
says “Mere toh Giridhar Gopal, Dusero na koyi.” (Only Giridhar
Gopal is Mine, no one else is.” Meerabai’s points are
extraordinary. This is such a great point, and we will not hear it
in many places. The truth is that there is nothing that is ours.
Only God remains with us forever, in whatever life form we take.
None of these life forms (bodies) will stay with us. Such an amazing
point is revealed to us by God.

Whether we accept or not, is your wish. It is up to us whether we
accept! We have complete freedom. We are independent in what we
want to accept. This is such sweet truth, that God never leaves us.
He does not leave anyone, even if we criticize, complaint, hate Him,
or are ungrateful towards Him. Whatever we want to believe, we can
believe, because we are independent in our beliefs. But there is
nothing more amazing than God is mine and I am God’s. But the
devotees of God, only believe in God. At all times if we remain firm
on this point, we will be filled with everlasting joy.

“Aisa abhimaan jaaye nahi bhore, mein sewak, Raghupati, pati more,”
says Tulsidasji in Ramayana. Truly a liberating thought. This is
such a loving, such a sweet, such a friendly, likeable point. It is
an extraordinary point. He never leaves us. Even if you destroy His
name, you speak evil of Him, do everything against His will, then
too, He never leaves you. Whether you believe or not, it is
entirely up to you, as you are entirely free. I am God’s and God is
mine. What a joyful thought. Let us have this thought at all times
and see, the joyful feeling thereafter. This is truly a liberating
thought, one that will benefit us immensely.

Therefore remain ever joyful. There is no one that is like God, no
one has ever been, can ever be, it is not possible to be. Realizing
this remain in joy at all times. Only Bliss and Bliss alone.
Whoever believes and accepts this, he will be eternally blissful and
joyful. God is “sarva samarth” Almighty, All capable. More so
than anyone else, therefore what is the delay? Simply have a
relationship with God. This illumination is also received from
Bhagavaan. No one is like him, as all else will die, the kings,
the ministers, the friends, the family, the neighbors, All! You
will not find a master like him. All in one (mother, father,
sister, brother, friend, lover, everything). In anant Brahmaand,
(infinite Universes) there has not been anyone like Him.

Respect-Mother and Father August 30, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 5:03 pm

Have great respect for your mother and father, your in-laws and
elders. Serve them, then these impressions will be imprinted on the
children, and in old age they too will serve you. But if you do not
do this, if you do not serve the elders, then the children too have
the same impressions in their mind and their nature too will become
the same. We cannot remain the same at all times and there will be
a time when this body too will become old and incapable of doing a
lot. At that time, your children will not come to help out. Then
you will complaint that they do not help, they do not listen.
Well! How much have you served your elders? Now why must you
expect anything from your children? Therefore make your conduct
and behavior good.

If you are a son, be a good son. Serve your mother. Do not want
anything from her, only ask for her blessings to be able to serve
her. One can never become debt free, from serving their mother and
father. Whatever we may have done for them, we can never pay back
our debts to our parents. We can never be free of what we owe them.
There is no way out of this debt. We are totally indebted to our
parents. So then what? We can only serve them and make them
happy. By making them happy, all our debts are excused. The amount of
difficulty a mother has born for her child, the child can never
serve his mother to that extent. Nowadays we make up big stories.
We are called educated, decent men, where did we get this body
from ? From the mother. It is the mother that took care of this
body.

However educated and intelligent we may become, in childhood we did
not know how to sit, but our mother taught us to sit. She taught us
to walk, by holding on to our fingers. We did not know how to eat,
but mother made us sit and spoon-fed us and gradually taught us to
eat. Our brothers and sisters too were in the same helpless boat as
we were. Even in this state, after undergoing a lot of difficulties
our mother managed to take care of us. While we were between games
and sports, often breaking things, and scraping knees from climbing
trees, catching scorpions (bitchuu) and putting hands in fire.
Mother always protected us. Playing in dirt and other gross things,
to the extent that now even thinking about it makes us shirk. At
that time we were not aware about anything, but mother patiently
made us aware. In the most extraordinary manner, she took care of
us.

Sometimes men taken over by their pride casually say to me, so what
is the big deal? I say to them – try to keep a child for two days on
your lap and see for yourself. It is because of mother’s motherly
strength (matru shakti) that we have all been taken care off.
Therefore however we can, whatever way we are capable, we must serve
our parents. Those who don’t understand, pray that they understand
to respect their elders. God will not respect, those who don’t
respect their parents. No one will trust them, because the one who
could not be there for his parents, who could he be there for? God
is happy when one serves his parents. By following orders, certain
Siddhi (supernatural powers) are attained, rather God realization is
attained. Therefore, Brothers and Sisters, we must obey our parents.

So what will happen by obeying our parents? They will be served and
we will become free of “I-ness” i.e. ego-less (nirahankar). By
serving them with material goods, we will become free of “mine-
ness.” (nirmama). As many things as we put to use, to put service,
from that many things we will become detached and attain
eternal “peace” (shanti).

Nature! August 29, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 1:39 pm

Bhoomirâpo’nalo vâyuh, kham mano buddhireva ca
Ahankâra iteeyam me bhinnâ prakrtirastadhâ
Apareyamitastvanyâm prakrtim viddhi me parâm
jeevabhootâm mahâbâho yayedan dhâryate jagat” (Gita 7:4-5)

God says – “Earth, water, fire, air, ether, – these constitute My
nature – five elements (prakriti) and mind, intellect, ego in this
manner a total of eightfold divided is my My lower (insentient)
nature; And O mighty armed, in this manner, apart from my lower
nature, but different from it, the life-element (Jeev), is My higher
(sentient) nature – by which this Universe is sustained. (Gita 7:4-
5)

Commentary – When that consciousness element (Self), gets
identified with the “ego” and assumes identity and oneness with it,
then it is called “Para-prakriti” (Higher nature). Both the world
(apara) and the embodied soul, (jeev, para) – are part of God’s
(Bhagwân’s) innate nature, in other words, divine potency (energy).
Without the powerful, the power has no independent existence. Just
like nail and hair, inspite of being lifeless, are not separate from
from the body, similarly the lower nature (apara prakrti) inspite of
being inert, is not separate from Supreme Consciousness (Paramatma).
That is both lower and higher nature – being a manifestation (form)
of Bhagwân are there. There is absolutely nothing else
remaining !

It is only the embodied soul that has taken on this world. The
point is that neither is the world in the eyes of God, nor in the
eyes of a great Soul, rather it is only in the eyes of the embodied
soul (Jeev). It is only this embodied soul (Jeev), that has taken
and sustained this world and by giving it significance and a
reality, caused kinship with it, which lead to bondage of birth and
death.

From this earth all the way to ego, everything is inert lower
nature. Just like earth, water, fire, etc. are to be known,
similarly this ego is also to be known. This embodied soul (Jeev)
by identifying with ego, begins to believe himself to be “I am”. In
this the “I” is lower nature and “am” is higher nature. On
servering relations with ego, the “I” becomes non-existent and “am”
becomes one with existence in the form of “Is-ness” – this itself is
Moksha (release from rebirth in the world).

On assuming ego, the embodied soul (jeev) takes on the entire lower
nature. “I am” – keeping this pride and egoism itself is assuming
and taking on the entire lower nature. If that “I” becomes free of
egoism, rather by not having pride, if that pure “I-ness” of the
lower nature remains, then it will not be the kind that will lead to
bondage; just as earth, water, fire, etc. are never cause of
bondage.

Peace and Happiness ! August 28, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 11:58 am

Questions: How to maintain love, happiness and peace in the family?
Answer: The main impediments in any relationship is when a person
wants things to happen his way only. He wants his words to hold
weight, his desires to be fulfilled or wants everything for his own
self interest.

When one thinks about the other person, and doing good to the other
person, by honoring and providing comfort to them, and wishing them
well and imbibing in thoughts of their welfare, then all members of
the family become happy.

Question: What is the primary reasons for fights in a household?
Answer: Generally within every household there are fights primarily
due to two reasons
1) The other person should do all the work, earn money, make a
living and bearing all the expenses and
2) I will do the spending, shopping etc. I am to receive all the rest,
respect, and all glories come to me.
From these two points, most of the troubles begin. If these were to be
reversed, that is, I do all the work and you relax and rest. That
respect, hospitality, admiration, happiness are not taken, rather they
are given. If such things are done amongst each other — giving of
respect, admiration, rest, relaxation, carrying out orders, making
others happiness etc., then love will surely increase.

Question: How to be truly gratified in a family life?
Answer: Man’s nature is such that he likes the fulfillment of his
desires. When things happen according to his desires, he feels happy.
There is desire for wealth, respect, fame, and to live a full life.
But of all of these desires, the main desire is that what ever my mind
desires, that should happen. This is not something that one should
feel good about. If we give up the insistence of our mind, and if we
do what others desire, then we will become gratified for
life. Only two things we have to watch out for, that whatever others
are asking us to do, is rightful and just (nyaayukt) and we have the
ability to fulfill that desire.

Question: What must one do to attain this gratification, this peace
and harmony in family life?
Answer: For this, there is a straightforward solution. Just decide
once and for all, that we are not going to take anything from this
world — we are only going to serve this world. The reason to serve
this world is because we have taken a lot from this world in the past,
so now it is time to give back in return. We have to give the family,
to the world, not take from it.

If members live lovingly with one another, the atmosphere will be full
of peace and happiness and love evolves automatically by renunciation
of selfishness and pride.

Supreme Essence! August 27, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 2:45 pm

That which we wish to attain, that Supreme Essence, That
Consciousness is not concentrated in one particular place. It cannot
be captured or captivated by any one. If that was the case, then how
would That Eternal and Supreme Essence benefit us ? That Supreme
Soul (Consciousness) is ever attained by all beings. Those great
souls that have realized this Supreme Essence, neither become Gurus,
nor take any fees (gifts). In fact, they openly share their
learnings with all. Rather, those that do not become Gurus, are able
to reveal about the Supreme Essence in a manner that those who
become Gurus are unable to share.

Individuals that transact or trade their teachings are not Gurus.
Those that say – first become my disciple (student), then I will
reveal to you the path towards God Realization, are like traders of
God. It is a principle that the price that a particular item is sold
for, the actual value of the item is less then the listed price.
Just like a watch which is available for Rs 1,000, it would cost
lesser than Rs 1,000 for the shopkeeper to purchase that item for
resale. If by making someone a Guru, something is attained, then the
thing attained will be less value than the Guru himself has. Then
with that weaker thing, how can God be attained? God is priceless. A
priceless thing is only attained without a price, and that which is
attained for a price, is weaker than the listed price. Therefore if
anyone says, I will reveal to you the real essence, if you become my
disciple then, kindly join your hands in gesture “no thank you” and
keep a distance ! Understand this to be some Kaalnemi !
Kaalnemi, the demon, the false Guru came to Hanumanji and said -

“Ser majjan kari aatur aavahu; dicchaa devu gyaan jehi paavahu.”
(Manasa. Lankaa. 57:4)

On hearing this, Hanumanji said – first take the gift, thereafter
give the secret mantra, and immediately thereafter Hanumanji by
wrapping his tail around the demon, lifted him and threw him down.

God has clearly stated in the Gita -
“Uddharedaatmanaatmaanam naatmaanamvasaadayet
Aatmaiva hyaatmano bandhuraatmaiva ripuraatamanah” (Gita 6:5)

“A man must raise himself by his own effort. He must not degrade
himself; for the Self is his own friend and the Self is also his
own enemy.” (Gita 6:5)

The point is that man alone is responsible for his own spiritual
upliftment or downfall. No one else is. God has bestowed this human
body, and with it, he has given all the necessary tools to attain
salvation. Therefore, one does not need anyone else for one’s
salvation.

Guru (spiritual guide), Saints and God, uplift the soul only after
man himself has trust and faith in them. Only after man accepts them
(Guru, Saints, God), comes to them, and follows their directions. If
man does not accept them, then how are they to do anything for man’s
salvation? They simply cannot do anything. If you do not become a
student, then what can a teacher do for you? Just like some other
person can come and drop off a meal at your home, but the hunger
must come from within. If there is no hunger within, than what use
is there of delicious food preparations that are placed in front of
you?

Guru, Saint and God are never non-existent. There have been many
great Saints, Teachers, Gurus and Avatars (God’s manifestations on
Earth), but until now we have not attained salvation ! It becomes
clear from this, that we have not accepted them. Thus, in our
upliftment or downfall, we alone are responsible. Those who believe
that someone else is responsible for their upliftment or
degradation, they will never be uplifted. They can never be
benefited with this belief.

In reality, man himself is his own Guru – “Aatmano Gururaatmaiyva
Purushasya Vishehataha.” (Srimadbhag 11:7:20). Therefore discourses
are for your own self. Knowing this, see faults in your own self and
seek to remove them, instead of seeing faults in others.

The wooden Bowl! August 27, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 2:10 pm

The Wooden Bowl

I guarantee you will remember the tale of the  Wooden Bowl

tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in- law, and four-year
 -  old grandson.

The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.

The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather’ s shaky hands and

failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.

When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in- law became irritated with the mess.
’We must do something about father,’ said the son.

‘I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.’

So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner.

There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.

Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.

When the family glanced in Grandfather’ s direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.

Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped  a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.

He asked the child sweetly, ‘What are you making?’ Just as sweetly, the boy responded,

‘Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.
’ The four-year-old smiled and  went back to work.

The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless.

Then tears started to stream down their cheeks.

Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grandfather’ s hand and  gently  led him back to the family table.

For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason,

neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

On a positive note, I’ve learned that, no matter what happens,

how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.

I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things:

a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

I’ve learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents,

you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.

I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as making a ‘life..’

I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands.

You need to be able to throw something back

I’ve learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you

But,  if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others,

your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you

I’ve learned that whenever I decide  something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.

I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.

I’ve learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone.

People love that human touch — holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.

Yoga Maya August 27, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 12:51 am

Veiled, by My divine potency (Yoga Maya), I am not manifest to all.
Hence ignorant folk do not recognize Me, as one unborn and
imperishable Supreme.” (Gita 7:25)

“Naaham Prakaasah sarvasya yogamaayaasamaavrtah
moodhoyam naabhijaanaati loko maamajamavyayam.” (Gita 7:25)

When God talks about “Moodhoyam,” He says – “He is unborn and
imperishable, free from birth and death.” But, inspite of being
unborn and imperishable, he appears (incarnates) and disappears by
staging a divine play, in the same way as the Sun rises and appears
before us and later sets and disappears from our sight. Thus, those
who know Bhagavan as beyond birth and death are undeluded (Gita
10:3, 15:19). Whereas, those who regard Him as an ordinary mortal,
subject to birth and death, are deluded fools (Gita 9:11)

The reason why a man does not regard Bhagavan (God) as unborn and
imperishable, is that man by forgetting his real affinity with
Bhagavan, erroneously accept his affinity with this body, “I am
this body and this body is mine.” It is because of this body
consciousness that there is a veil infront of man, due to which he
regards Bhagavan (God) as perishable, one who is born and later
dies.

The points brought out in this verse is that the reason men do not
regard God as unborn and imperishable, is because of two factors -

1) Bhagavan is concealed in His divine potency and
2) Bhagavan is concealed due to man’s own folly.

Let us use this illustration. A man remains confined to his house
which is shut by the gates of the house. He is able to go out of
his own house, but the city is also gated and he is unable to cross
the city gates, as the City gates are shut. But the King in that
area, can open the gate of the City as well as, force the sentry to
open the gates of the man’s house. Similarly a man can get rid of
his folly and realize his true nature. But God Realization, is only
possible by God’s grace. Only those who Bhagavan (God) enables to
know Him, can truly know Him. Those who surrender themselves to
Bhagavan (God), for them, Bhagavan removes their ignorance, as well
as, gets rid of God’s deluding (maya) potency.

Divine and Demoniac Natures… August 25, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 4:09 pm

Sri Bhagavaan could not get an opportunity earlier to explain the divine
and demoniac natures, due to Arjuna putting forth various different
questions. However, now in Chapter 16, He explains the divine and
demoniac nature in details by starting the topic on His own.

II 16:1 II

abhayam sattvasams;uddhirjnanayoga vyavasthitih

daanam damsca yajnasca svaadhyaastapa arjavam (Gita 16:1)

sri bhagavaan said -

Total absence of any fear, absolute purity of inner faculties – purity
of mind, purity of heart, established in Yoga for true knowledge and
essence of God (Self), pure charity (giving in disinterested manner, as
a matter of duty), controlling the senses, yajnah (offering daily
oblations to sacred fire), swaydhyaa; (chanting of God’s name, study of
sacred books, introspection etc.), austerity, includes undergoing
hardships in the performance of one’s duty and being straight forward in
one’s dealings with body and mind.

II 16:2 II

ahimsaa satyamakrodhastyaagah saantirapaisunam

dayaa bhootesvaloluptvam maardavam hreerracaapalam (Gita 16:2)

Non-violence, speaking the truth, free from anger, renunciation of
worldly pleasures, equipose (not having disturbance in the inner
faculties such as likes and dislikes), not engaging in fault-finding or
slandering, compassion towards all living beings, free from covetousness
- not to feel an inner desire for worldly things or sensual pleasures,
gentleness, a sense of shame or hesitation in doing those things that
are not dutiful and that are contrary to ordinance of scriptures,
absence of fickleness or restlessness.

II 16:3 II

tejah ksamaa dhrtih saucamadroho naatimaanitaa

bhavanti sampadam daivimabhijaatasya bhaarata (Gita 16:3)

Radiance, forgiveness, unwavering steadfastness or fortitude, purity of
the body, absence of malice, not desirous of honor, O’ descendant of
Bhaarata, are the marks of him, who is endowed with divine nature.

Austerities -Tolerance August 24, 2008

Filed under: ENGLISH — dhavalrajgeera @ 10:59 pm

In Gita 18:67, Lord Krishna forbids Arjuna, to unfold the supreme
secret gospel of all the other secrets, to those who are undeserving.

“idam te naatapaskaaya naabhaktaaya kadaacana
na caasusrusave vaacyam na ca maam yo’bhyasuyati.” (Gita 18:67)

This is never to be mentioned by you, to anyone who performs no
austerities, or has no devotion, nor who is unwilling to hear, or
who finds fault with Me.” (Gita 18:67)

Here the term “idam” (this) stands for the supreme secret “abandoning
all duties, take refuge in Me alone” unfolded in the preceding
verse.

Let us discuss just the first point about “austerities”. While
performing one’s duty, whatever unfavorable situations and
circumstances that naturally come up, one must happily bear them.
This is austerity (tapa). The inner faculties are not purified
without austerity, and without purity, one cannot hold on to or
accept good points. Therefore Bhagwaan (God) declares, that this
supreme secret of all secrets, should not be revealed to a person
who is devoid of austerities. Also one who is intolerant is
considered devoid of austerities. The tolerance is of four kinds:

1) Tolerance in pairs of opposities, such as attachment (likes) and
aversion (dislikes), pleasure and pain, honour and dishonour, praise
and blame etc. Men of virtuous deeds are free from delusion, in the
shape of pairs of opposites (Gita 7:28); “The undeluded ones, are
free from pairs of opposites such as pleasure and pain” (Gita
15:5).

2) Tolerance of impulses i.e. resists impulses of lust, anger, greed
and aversion etc. (Gita 5:23)

3) Tolerance of religions (doctrines) of others – On listening to
glories of other religions or doctrines, he does not doubt teachings
of his own religion, nor does he criticize and condemn, the
doctrines of others. He realizes, that the discipline of
renunciation and of action are one (Gita 5:5)

4) Tolerance in the progress of others – Even though he is lacking
in capability, rights, position, sacrifice, austerity, etc, then
too, on hearing the praise of other’s capabilities, rights, etc, he
is neither jealous, nor envious of them, rather there is no changes
in him. (Gita 4:33, Gita 12:15).

A perfected soul, possesses these four kinds of tolerance. One who
aims at these four, is austere (tapasvi), while he whose aim is not
these, is not austere.

This most profound secret, should not be unfolded to one who is not
austere, because he will not believe it, he will find faults with
it, he will be unable to bear these words and thus have a downfall.

Secondly, a man whose aim is not to purify his propensities, conduct
etc., may think after listening to Gita 18:66 (Lord will liberate
him from all sins), that why should he worry? Worries and grieving
will be done by God. By thinking so, he may indulge in evil and may
have a fall. Thus this most profound secret will be misused.
Therefore Bhagwaan directs Arjuna, not to impart this secret gospel
to one who is devoid of austerities.
