Total Surrender & Trust
Mysticism Cannot Be Taught, It Can Only Be Caught

Total Surrender & Trust

To be introduced to a true spiritual teacher is a very unique phenomenon.

First, nobody is searching truth. Even if a master passes you by, you will remain completely oblivious of his existence. That’s how it happened when Buddha passed. Millions of people remained oblivious. When Jesus passed, people had not even heard his name. He was an unknown figure. When Mahavir was here, very rare souls came in contact with him.

Because you can come in contact with a master only when you are really seeking truth intensely, passionately; when you have mumuksha, a fiery desire to know, and you are ready to stake everything for it.

When you are ready to know, when you are ready to become a disciple, only then can you come into the contact of a master, only then can you be introduced to the world of a master. Your readiness to become a disciple will be your introduction.

It is very difficult to become a disciple. It is easy to become a student, because a student has no personal relationship. He comes to know things. You go to the university, you are a student. If you come to me as a student, you will miss me, because then you hear only what I say, and you will collect it as information; you will become more knowledgeable. But if you really want to come to me, you have to come to me as a disciple.

A disciple is one who says, ‘I don’t know anything. I surrender totally, utterly. I will be just receptive. I trust. I am ready to annihilate myself. If you say, “Jump into the fire,” I will jump.’

A disciple means one who is ready to trust somebody… very difficult… ready to drop himself, ready to go with somebody into the unknown, uncharted world. Only a very courageous soul becomes a disciple. To learn, one needs to be humble. To learn, one needs to be totally empty, receptive, sensitive, meditative.

A student needs concentration, a disciple needs meditation. Concentration means he has to listen correctly to what is being said. Meditation means you have to be present rightly; not only listen rightly — that is only a small part of it.

You have to be here with me present rightly, in tune, in harmony, in deep rapport, en rapport, so my heart can beat with your heart, so you can breathe with my breathing, so you can vibrate with my frequency.

A moment comes between the master and the disciple when they both start vibrating in the same rhythm. Then something is transferred, and then something transpires between them. That which cannot be said can be transferred in those moments. That which cannot be expressed can be handed over in those moments. A transmission beyond scripture, that’s how Zen Buddhists express it, a transmission beyond scripture, a transmission immediate, direct.
OSHO
The Discipline of Transcendence, Vol-2, Chapter-1

Mysticism Cannot Be Taught, It Can Only Be Caught

The East has contributed a few tremendously significant things to human consciousness. One of those beautiful things is the phenomenon of the master/disciple relationship. It is an Eastern contribution; just as science is a Western phenomenon, mysticism is Eastern. Science is extrovert, mysticism is introvert. Science is trying to know the objective reality, and mysticism is an exploration of the subjective reality, of the interiority of your own being.

In the world of science the teacher/student relationship exists, because science can be taught — hence the teacher/ student relationship. But religion, mysticism, cannot be taught, it can only be caught. Hence in mysticism there is no relationship like the teacher/student relationship. A totally different kind of relationship exists: the master/disciple. The differences are tremendous, the differences are great.

Between a student and a teacher, doubt is the method. The teacher is there to help your doubts disappear, he is there to answer your questions; he is there to inform you, make you more knowledgeable. The student is there with all his questions, curiosities, doubts. In fact, the more intelligent he is, the more doubtful he will be. The best student is full of doubts, and the best teacher is one who helps the student with new answers, new knowledge, so that his doubts can be disposed of. Science uses doubt as the method; that’s its fundamental method of inquiry.

In the world of religion just the opposite is the case: trust is the method, not doubt; love is the method, not logic; surrender is the method, not conquest of knowledge. The student, when he comes from the university, comes with great ego because he has accumulated much knowledge, he has learned much. But the disciple, when he comes from the master, comes as a nobody, egoless. He no longer exists as a separate entity from existence. He has not learned anything; on the contrary, he has unlearned whatsoever he used to know before.

A great philosopher had come to see Raman Maharshi — a German philosopher. He asked Raman, “I have come from far far away, to learn much from you.”

Raman laughed and he said, “Your journey has been an exercise in futility. Unnecessarily you traveled to me, because I am not here to teach you anything — if you have come to learn, you have come to the wrong place — I help people to unlearn!”

The master helps you to unlearn. The master helps you to become innocent again, childlike.

Jesus says: Unless you are like a child, unless you are reborn, you shall not enter into my kingdom of God. He is speaking an Eastern language. Jesus traveled to India; whatsoever he taught later on, he had imbibed that spirit in this country. In fact, it was one of the reasons that he was crucified. It was one of the basic reasons why his people could not understand him: he was bringing a totally new language, a new approach, a new vision.

The East has always been the source. Pythagoras came to the East, Jesus came to the East… and whatsoever the West has ever come to know about master-and-discipleship has been experienced through the East, directly or indirectly.

The master/disciple relationship is a love affair, the greatest love affair possible. The disciple surrenders his ego to the master. He bows down. He says: BUDDHAM SHARANAM GACHCHHAMI — I bow down to the Buddha, I surrender to the Buddha, I take shelter at your feet. The moment he drops his ego he becomes part of the being of the master.

And the master is no more there as a person, he is only a presence. And when two presences meet, the greatest orgasmic experience happens, the greatest ecstasy. That ecstasy is the goal of the master-and-disciple relationship. That ecstasy has been happening for centuries in a very mysterious way: the master says nothing about it, the disciple hears nothing about it, but sitting by the side of the master, silently waiting, patiently, prayerfully, one day the synchronicity…. One day, suddenly, the disciple starts breathing with the master. His heartbeat is no longer separate from the master’s heartbeat. They disappear as two and become one.

That experience of oneness with the master is the opening of the door of the temple of God.

On Raising Ideal and Devoted Children? – 8

(Continued…)

If you desire nothing at all, then do God’s “Bhajan” i.e. worship, adoration, and remembrance. If you desire everything then do God’s “Bhajan” and if you desire liberation, then do God’s bhajan. Bhajan is “Sanjivani booti” (life-giving herb/medicinal plant), it is the best thing ever! It is only due to not paying attention to it, that people are experiencing a void and are suffering. Leaving God aside, and expecting from the world, thinking that they will benefit us, thinking that this person will do something for us etc. He who himself is lacking in many things, he who himself is perishable, destructible and unhappy, how will he make everything right for us?

Prahlad, the devotee of God himself said to the other demoniac children –

Raaya kalantram pashavah sutaadayo

Grhaa mahi kunjarkoshbhootayah |

Sarvetherkaamaah kshanbhangurayushah

Kurvanti martyasya kiyat priyam chalaah ||

(Srimad Bhaagawat 7/7/39)

“O’ Brother! Wealth, wife, farm animals, son-daughter, palace, earth, elephant, treasure and the various super-human powers and more, in fact all the wealth of this Universe and all the objects of enjoyment, what pleasure will it give this man who is here momentary only; they themselves are here only for a short time.”

Shri Tulasidasji has said in the “Vinaypatrikaa” –

Deva, danuj, muni, naag, manuj, sab maayaa- bibas vichaare |

Tinake haath daas Tulasi Prabhu, kahaa apanapou hare ||

Therefore let the sentiments very firm and determinate, that I am only the servant of the Lord, I only want to serve the Lord.

God does not see to the past mistakes, therefore do not worry about them. A child however many mistakes he makes, but when he cries, then mother hugs him close to her heart. Where did mother get such affection and tenderness? It came for the Lord Himself! Simply cry out, tell the Lord – “these are my thoughts, you will have to fulfill them.”

“Aayaa hu sharan mein nibhaanaa padegaa.”

“I have come and taken refuge in You my Lord, you will have to fulfill.”

With the merciful eyes of the Lord, you will become pure and sinless. In Gita, Lord Krishna has said –

Apichet suduraachaaro bhajate maamananyabhaak |

Saadhureva samantavyah samagvyavasito hi saha || (Gita 9/30)

“Even if the vilest sinner worships Me with exclusive devotion, he should be considered a saint, for he has rightly resolved to be My devotee.” (Gita 9/30)

What a straight-forward, simple and easy verse this is! In Shri Ramcharitramanas also Lord Shri Rama also gives His message to His subjects saying –

Kahahu Bhagati path kavan prayaasaa |

Jog na makh japa tapa upavaasaa ||

In this there is no need for practice of Yoga, nor is there any other difficulty. In this the main objective is that God likes very much those only that are honest, straight-forward in nature.

Saral svabhaav na man kutilaayi |

Jathaa laabh santosh sadaayi ||

Therefore whatever the Lord gives, whatever family he places us in, whatever situation or circumstances he places us in, in that very state accept it as God’s grace. Do not look anywhere else.

More daas kahaayi nar aasaa |

Karayi tou kahahu kahaa biswaasaa ||

If after becoming God’s, if one looks at others then how is there faith and trust in God! Therefore after taking the support of the Lord’s Lotus feet, become free of worries and fearless. By God’s grace, Lord’s loving devotees will be born. We too are by God’s grace, His very own loving ones. We have to only listen and share his talks. After doing “bhajan” what will be our condition – let there be no worry about that at all. We are His, we are dependent on Him alone.

Kaahu ke bal bhajan ko, kaahu ke aachaar |

Byaas bharose kunwari ke, sovat paav pasaar ||

Ek bharoso ek bal, ek aas biswaas |

Ek Raam Ghanshyaam hit, chaatak Tulasidas ||

Narayana ! Narayana ! Narayana !

Brain – Mind and Unknown – Rajendra Trivedi, M.D. January 28, 2011

We are reading the knowledge and possible research on Meditation.

One must ask questions?

What are the paths of mediation with in the brain or out side?

Where is the Love-Sprit-God

How on feels and experience and can it be express or seen?

Our brain has language centers and one can locate those with SPCT, MRI or CAT scan!

But Mind has no language!

Spiritual feeling and or experience has no language they are extra sensory.

There pathways in brain are not located yet.

Science is looking to find manifestations of Mind.

There is written By Sant Tulsidasji

Who is that?

“बिनु पग चलई सुनही बिनु काना?

गिरा अनयन नयन बिनुबानी.”

Keep shining

Before using any new thing, take the permission of the Lord; offer it to the Lord and use it considering it to be a propitiatory offering. Use pure foods, money that is pure (not earned by inappropriate means), pure utensils for the Lord. Pure foods prepared with much purity, specifically for the Lord, while remembering the Lord and are offered to Him as a sacrifice, and while partaking in that food, with every morsel of food placed in the mouth, one must remember the Lord and consider the food to be a gift from the Lord. By doing so, the person eating will not be accused of the sins associated with the food. It has also been said –

Kawale kavale kurvan ramnaamaanukirtanam |

Yeh kashrict purushoshrnaati sonndosharn lipyate ||

When the food is pure, the mind becomes pure. When one gains victory over the relish of the tongue, then all senses come under one’s control.

Taavjjtendriyo na syaad vijetaanyendriyah pumaan |

Na jayed rasanam yaavajjitam sarvam jite rase || (Srimad. Bhagavat 11/8/21)

“Even after man gains mastery over all sense organs, he cannot be entirely victorious, until he gains control over the relish of the tongue. And when he gains mastery over the relish of tongue, then understand that all senses are under his control.”

While doing all work, continue to take the Name of the Lord. Let no time pass by empty. Those who say, when should we do “bhajan” (worship/remembrance) of God? Besides work-business, the time that is being wasted away, in that much time, if with great alertness and caution one engages in “Bhajan” (worship and remembrance), then lot of “Bhajan” is possible. And if the work / business is not understood to be our own work etc., and accepted as being God’s work, then naturally, at all times “bhajan,” will be taking place. Therefore, however, and which ever way God must be remembered – “Tasmaat kenaapyupaayen manah Krishne niveshyet.” God Himself says – “Maamanusmara” (Gita 8/7)

Even saints have said something so very beautiful –

Haath kaam mukh Ram hai, hirday saanchi preet |

Jan dariyaa grh saadhu ki, Aap hi uttam reet ||

Hal haanke Hari ko bhaje, shraddha maafix de

Itane mein Hari na mile, mujaraa ham se le ||

Uddham kar udar bhare, mukh soon jape naam |

Aisa mouka na mile, to karodo kharche dam ||

One day there was a gentleman who asked in private – Maharajji! It comes to my mind that can I call God by the name “Maa” (mother)? I find mother to be very sweet” I said – “Most definitely you can; not only that, play in her lap. ” Shri Shankracharyaji, who is honored by the entire world said –

Maayaa hasterpayitvaa bharankrtikrte mohamoolodbhvam maam |

Maatah krishnaamidhaane chirasamayamudaseenbhaavam gataasi ||

Karunaikaadhivaase sakrdapi vandanam nekshse tvam madeeyam |

Tatsrvagye na krtum prabhavati bhavati kin nu moolasya shaantim ||

(Prabodhsudhaakar)

O’ the mother of the one named Krishna! You created me and placed me in the hands of your illusory powers in this attractive planet earth, to raise, provide and care of me. Now you have become distant from me for many days on end. O’ compassionate Maa! Not once even do you look at my face! O’ All pervading One! Are you not able to bestow peace at the very root (core) from this worldly attachment?

Simply today accept God as your mother. You have found a real and permanent mother; all errors / mistakes are erased forever. Engage in Bhajan (worship, adoration, remembrance) of the Lord, call out to the Lord as Maa (mother). You can say anything whatsoever to the Maa. It has come in the Bhaagwat -

Akaamah sarvakaamo vaa mokshakaam udaaraadhih |

Teevrena bhaktiyogena yajet purusham param || (2/3/10)

“Whether you are free of desires or immersed entirely in desires, or you have desire for liberation, a wise man, through “Bhaktiyog” should with great intensity engage in worship and adoration of the one and only Lord.

What is sunderkand ? January 26, 2011

What is sunderkand ?

Sunderkand is the fifth chapter of the Hindu holy book called ‘Ramayan’.

The Ramayana has been divided into following chapters by Tulsidas as per the events and importance of the life of lord shri Ram.

•Balyakand
•Ayodhyakand
•Aranyakand
•Kishkindhakand
•Sunderkand
•Lankakand
•Utarakand
What does it contains ?

When Rama sets out for searching Sita towards lanka, they were at the bank of sea at Rameshwar and were planning how to cross the sea.

Jamwant reminded Shree Hanumanji of having a divine power of flying, Shree Hanumanji sets out towards lanka in search of Sitaji.

This is the commencement of sunderkand. On the way Hanumanji met lots of obstacles in the form of she demon Sursa than lankini, however He successfully reaches lanka by over powering them.

On reaching He meets Vibhishan [brother of Ravana] where he tells Hanumanji about the critical situation of Sitaji and told about Ashok Vatika. Hanumanji meets Sitaji after showing the proof of being the ambassador of Shree Rama.

He than destroys the Ashok Vatika [beautiful garden] upon which Ravan gets annoyed and sent his sons to kill Him but in this process one of his son got killed.

However they could overpower Hanumanji who brought Him in front of Ravan. Ravan orders his followers to lit a fire on his tail.

As a result of this the tail went on becoming bigger and bigger and the fire engulfed whole lanka.

After doing this Hanumanji went to meet Sitaji and said He will come with lord Ram to rescue her.

Hanumanji narrated total incident to lord Rama on returning from Lanka.

Upon this Rama started his journey towards lanka by creating Ram setu [BRIDGE] on the sea and enters lanka.

This is the sunderkand being narrated in verses and poetry form.

Why it is supposed to have power ?

As you know this version of Ramayana has been written by shri Tulsidasji.

After completing the end verses of Kishkindhakand he felt that next portion should be written in presence of Shree Hanumanji.

So he started sadhana and upasana and aahwan to which shri Hanumanji accepted and came.

Sunderkand was written in front of shri Hanumanji and at the end of Sunderkand, Tulsidasji requested to imbibe life in this kand by blessing the devotees who recites this kand of freeing from the worldly worries.

This was done by lord Shree Hanumanji. Hence it is powerful.

How to Raise Ideal and Devoted Children? – 5

(Continued…) When a child is born, one must definitely perform all the rites and teachings as prescribed in the four Vedas including teaching of the Vedas to that child. Also singing the glories of the Lord’s Name, listening to His divine legends and reciting His Divine Name should also be practiced. The essential naming ceremonies (at the time of giving the child a name) should take place. The child’s name should be based on the alphabet as per the astrological sign and should be associated with God; like Govindlal, Ramchandra, HariKrishna; and if it is a daughter then names should be like Ganga, Yamuna, Sharada, Saraswati, Gayatri etc.

It is a very sad things that mothers and guardians of future Bhartiya children are likely to be a bad influence on the child. Very often, they are conducting themselves very poorly and behaving entirely badly. As such the mothers and guardian do not have such a bad intention or aim, however, out of ignorance and under the influence of one’s nature, pregnant sisters and guardians are engaging in entertainment and reading fictional stories and novels and are looking at censured photos and movies. They are going to the clubs and impure places at night, eating impure food and drinks, as well. Many men-women are wearing indecent clothes and make-up and shamelessly dancing, singing, jumping and joking around. On children’s birthdays too, they celebrate according to the western ways, uselessly consuming sinful foods and entertainment.

Nowadays people have begun to have their children call them with improper words like daddy, pappa, mummy etc. Instead one should begin the use of words such as Bapuji, Mataji, Maa etc.

Mothers, sisters and brothers do not assume the children to be too young and ignorant. “he is young, he is only a few days and months old, he is not knowing” etc. – By understanding the child to be too young, do not do any sort of improper actions or gestures in front of the child. As such all our lives, at all times we must behave and conduct ourselves in a pure manner, even more in front of children. Essentially, one should be very pure and must conduct one’s self in a divine, dignified manner. Therefore let your conduct be exemplary, let there never be that sentiment within the children that what is this male and female? As children, we used to ask each other, where have you come from? At that time we used to say – “we have been showered from Ramji” There was so much purity within, such pure sentiments. A small child may not understand everything, however surely hidden and subtle impressions will form in him with utmost certainty.

Male-Females should want that they love the child, and even in playing and coaxing do not tell a lie. Always tell the truth, but do so lovingly. I have heard a story. There was a child of the “vaishya” class, who one day went to his father’s shop. His father was counting the money for the day (from the cash register). The child sneeked in and took five rupees bill and hid it. The tally was five rupees short. The father thought, no one has come from outside to this cash register, what could have happened? He asked the child whether he had the money? The son said “Bucchi took it away.” The child was scolded at which time he said, why are you scolding me? You had brought two mangoes the other day, and when I saw them, I took one mango away. And when I asked for the second mango, then Mataji lifted her hands and said “Bucchi took away the mango” and she hid the mango in her lap. At that very same time the milk began to boil and overflow, and so she quickly got up and the mango fell from her lap on me. This talk about Bucchi was false and it came in front of me. This incident had an influence on me that similarly Bucchi also takes away money.

Therefore from this incident one must learn that considering the child to be too young, not knowing, or without understanding, do not lie to him. Let no impure impressions fall on himm. Let there never be any bad words heard from your mouth. Children are your real inheritance, your future world. They are the support that will uphold the Country. Whatever you say in front of children or you don’t say, its impressions will irrevocably fall on them. Just as a potter whatever shape he molds the clay into, it becomes that shape, but once the pot is heated in a kiln, thereafter the shape cannot be changed. This example is for the child in the womb. For the smaller children the example is one of new pot, in which you fill water for the first time and write something on it with a coal chalk, then that which is written will get imprinted there for ever.

How to Raise Ideal and Devoted Children? – 4

(Continued…) Meera did not have a child, but she only accepted the Lord as her beloved and attained God. In this way all mothers and sister have a feeling that God is my very own. Accept the most loving and natural of all relationships with Him. Accept God as your husband, your son, your father, whatever you desire accept Him in that manner; because is there anything else besides God? It is God alone that is in all these names and forms. Just as at the time of “vatsaharan” when Brahmaji hid all the cows etc., God revealed His divine play, His manifestation to Brahmaji.

Yaavad vatspavkaalpkabapuryaavat karaadghrayaadikam

Yaavad yashthivishaanvenudalshig yaavad vibhooshaambaram |

Yaavacchilgunaabhidhaakrtivayo yaavad vihaaraadikam

Sarvam vishnumayam girodgavdajah sarvasvaroopo babhou || (Srimad Bhaagwat 10/13/19)

“The number of children and calves that were present, and their tiny bodies, and as were their tiny hands and feet, however many sticks, horns, flutes, and leaves that were there, whatever they were wearing, their silent nature, qualities, name, form and state whatever it was, the manner in which they used to eat and drink, and move around exactly in that very same forms God manifested Himself. At that time as if this entire universe is God’s manifestation” this spoken words of Ved as if in incarnate from revealed itself.”

A wife of a Brahmin living in Janakpur – mother of Bhaktraj Paramhansa mama Prayaagdasji – used to consider Sitaji as her loving daughter and Lord Shri Ram as the son-in-law. Similarly mothers and sisters can also consider the Lord as their son-in-law and can accept the most loving of all relationships that one likes with the Lord. Even an ordinary policeman, due to being a dutiful government employee considers himself to be great, then he who takes the support of the Almighty, All pervading, the well-wisher of all, how very great he can become! The support of the world and its relationship is impermanent, false and the kind to increase his pride; however the support of the Lord and relationship is natural, innate and permanent. It is the kind that makes him appear free of pride and with divine qualities. Whether some one believes this or not, God is ours only.

All mothers and sisters at all times must do “japa” (divine name recitation) of the Lord, meditate on the form of God, remember the divine tales of the Lord. “Bharatiya” Mothers (born in India), on waking up every morning, sing the glories of the Lord (kirtan), sing the divine tales of the Lord. While grinding wheat etc, while churning butter, the children used to go and lie down in the mother’s lap. They used to listen to the Lord’s divine tales and the singing of His glories. By doing so it would have a very good affect on the child. There was a saint, a very distinguished one, whose mother used to do these things and he would cozily sit in her lap. The mother would share the glories of the Lord, which had an immense influence on him.

Therefore mothers and sisters pay attention to this point, hold on to it and abide by it. All of mankind have equal rights to the points that are shared in satsang; whoever wishes to listen, they have special rights.

Ram gadi choude padi, sab koyi khelo aaye |

Gaavaa nahin hai santdas, jeete so le jaaye ||

These talks are not difficult; because we are God’s, and God is ours, therefore we are neither small, nor unhappy, nor suffering. Those who depend on outside things are the worst of all poverty stricken –

Ko vaa daridro hi vishaaltrushna | (Shankaracharyakrut prashnotteri)

The outside kingdom is not a very big thing; because when the eyes are shut at the end of the day (in sleep) nothing remains.

Sameelane nayanayorn hi kinchidasti (Bhartuharikrt Vairaagyashatak)

Therefore have sentiments of the highest level, as God’s relationship is the only great thing and it have been evident from time immemorial. (to be continued)

Why we read the Bhagavat Geeta, even if we can’t understand it?

An old farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson. Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Bhagavat Geeta.

His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa! I try to read the Bhagawat Geeta just like you but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand, I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bhagawat Geeta do?”

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.”

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house.

The grandfather laughed and said, “You’ll have to move a little faster next time,” and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.

This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before here turned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The old man said, “I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You’re just not trying hard enough,” and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.

Out of breath, he said, “SEE…. it is useless!”

“So you think it is useless?” The old man said, “Look at the basket.”

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.

“Son, that’s what happens when you read the Bhagavat Geeta. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of GOD in our lives.”

This is beautiful story .
